That’s Enough – Savage
Written by Martin
That’s Enough, is a song born from a very personal experience. It speaks to the struggles I faced as a teenager, having gone through grooming and assault by two different individuals. During that time, I felt trapped and used as a pawn in their actions. Growing up, I found it especially challenging to speak out, particularly as a male, due to societal expectations and stigmas.
The main purpose of my song is to support and empower survivors, especially males, to speak out about their experiences. I hope that through this song, others can find comfort in knowing they are not alone.
This track is a single piece to reach those who need it most. If this song can resonate with just one person and encourage them to reach out for help, then it has fulfilled its purpose.
If you’re listening to this song and find yourself playing it on repeat, it’s because you can relate to it. I’m truly sorry that you’ve experienced this, and that it has touched you deeply. But I’m glad you’ve found a track where you feel accepted, where your feelings are acknowledged as normal. You’re not alone, and your feelings are valid.
I was fourteen in the summer
Thought I found somebody who could see me
Didn’t know what he was taking
‘Til I couldn’t recognise the mirror
He said this is what love feels like
I believed him ’cause I wanted to
Now I’m sitting with the weight of it
Wondering if I’ll ever tell the truth
And I kept it quiet for so long
Afraid of what they’d say, what they’d think
But silence got its own kind of violence
And I’m tired of drowning when I need to breathe
So I’m speaking now
Even if my voice shakes when it comes out
Even if they turn away, even if they doubt
I know what happened, that’s enough
That’s enough, that’s enough
They might ask me why I didn’t run
Or say I should’ve known better back then
But I was just a kid looking for something
And he knew exactly what he was doing when
He made me feel special, made me feel chosen
‘Til I was too ashamed to tell a soul
Now I’m learning how to hold myself
Through the parts of me he tried to own
And I kept it buried like a wound
Thought maybe time would make it disappear
But healing only starts when you can name it
Say it out loud, let somebody hear
So I’m speaking now
Even if my voice shakes when it comes out
Even if they turn away, even if they doubt
I know what happened, that’s enough
That’s enough, that’s enough
I’m speaking now
For the boy I was who couldn’t make a sound
For every man who’s carrying it down
You know what happened, that’s enough
Your truth is yours, don’t let them take it
Don’t let them twist it into something else
What you survived don’t need permission
To be real, to be felt
You’re not alone in this
You’re not alone
So speak now
Let your voice shake when it comes out
Even if they turn away, even if they doubt
You know what happened
And brother, that’s enough
That’s enough
That’s enough
Listen to That’s Enough
